Chiefs long snapper James Winchester lost his father on Tuesday.

Michael Winchester, who worked for Southwest Airlines, was shot outside of Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City and died at the hospital. He was 52. James Winchester’s agent confirmed the news.

Shortly after, the Chiefs offered their love and support to James Winchester.

The Kansas City Star’s Terez A. Paylor provided more information about the shooting:

Capt. Paco Balderrama of the OCPD says he believes Winchester was working at the time. When asked if the shooting could be tied to Winchester’s employment, Balderrama said it could be, but he did not know if the shooter and the victim knew each other.

According to CBS affiliate KOTV, police said the suspect was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

And here’s Southwest Airlines’ statement, via CBS Dallas/Fort Worth:

It is with great sorrow that Southwest Airlines confirms that a Southwest Employee who was injured during a shooting incident today at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City has died from injuries. We continue to work with the local authorities investigating this incident. As a result of the police investigation, local flight operations have been halted. We’re working to accommodate Customers still in the airport when it was locked down as well as canceling flights departing from Oklahoma City for the remainder of the day. The Southwest Airlines Family is deeply saddened by the passing of our Southwest Family Member, and we extend our heartfelt sympathies and support to his family and Southwest Co-workers at this time.

Both father and son played college football at Oklahoma. Michael Winchester was a punter in the mid-1980s.

James Winchester has played for the Chiefs since the beginning of the 2015 season.
